in october 2017 repeater dropped "who sold it to ya?" on major streaming platforms and the legend goes that when they needed to provide a record label name scribbled in "hausu", the name of one of their project files, without really thinking about it. of course, in press releases, I said it referred to the japanese film, where expensive special effects were eschewed for effective, weird, DIY solutions.
in january 2018 I was brought on board last minute to help release ghostking is dead's ep "sweet boy" and along the way I got dragged in to this group only really knowing one of the lads and remembering seeing their old band "skrujax" play an absolutely horrible set out in a battle of the bands. but I was really taken in by the whole thing. automatic blue's "akira", actualacid's "apollo", ghostking is dead's beautiful second hausu ep; those tracks were hausu to me. in a big way.
I didn't know much about PR but we got help from some big legends along the way. we kind of think of everything up until that second ghostking ep as "phase one" of hausu; testing the waters, discovering sounds and ways of promoting what we do. then up until october 2019 it was "phase two"; the occasional blunder or missed date but big sonic ideas, some incredible live shows, and risks worth taking.
while working on the tapes for ghostking's third hausu ep, where "phase three" finally rears its head, I wanted to collect the songs from our early ages that told our story most fluently. for some acts it's their most acclaimed, for some it's a cut that's dear mostly to us, and some we just knew were right for this tape. nearly all our tunes with the biggest spotify playcounts or flashy release campaigns aren't here. but what we've got here is a big set of tunes.
